There comes a moment in your life when what once felt comfortable no longer fits.
It’s not always loud. In fact, sometimes it’s subtle. Like a quiet stirring or a discomfort you can’t quite explain.
Conversations don’t feel the same. Environments that once energized you now drain you. Patterns you used to tolerate now grieve your spirit.
And if you’re not careful, you’ll try to force yourself to stay where God has already called you out of.
Let me say this clearly: that discomfort is not a setback. It’s a signal.
Hebrews 12:1 reminds us to “lay aside every weight… and run with endurance the race that is set before us.” Notice that it doesn’t just say sin, it says weight. That means there are things in our lives that may not be wrong, but they are no longer right for where God is taking us.
Growth requires release.
There are mindsets you’ve outgrown.
There are environments you’ve outgrown.
There are even relationships you’ve outgrown.
That doesn’t make you disloyal. It makes you obedient.
Sometimes we’re tempted to stay connected to what’s familiar because it feels safe. We know how to navigate it. We know what to expect. But God is not calling you to comfort; He’s calling you to growth and purpose.
And purpose will often require you to leave something behind.
The tension you feel? That’s the space between who you’ve been and who you’re becoming.
It’s where God begins to stretch your faith, refine your thinking, and mature your discernment. But too often, we misinterpret that tension as confusion, when it’s actually God-given purpose trying to emerge.
You don’t need more confirmation, so resist the urge to over-think it. What you need is the courage to obey.
Obedience won’t always feel easy. In fact, it can feel like loss before it feels like freedom. But what God is leading you into will always be greater than what you’re leaving behind. Trust that!
Trust that the same God who sustained you in your last season will strengthen you in this one. Trust that what He’s removing is making room for something better aligned with your purpose and calling.
You are not being left behind.
You are being led forward. So if you’ve been feeling that nudge, that restlessness, that inner knowing that something has shifted… don’t ignore it.
Ask God for peace and courage. And then take the next step, even if it’s small.
Because staying where you’ve outgrown will only delay where you’re called. And, Sister, you didn’t come this far to stay stuck!
Reflection & Journaling Prompts
● What in my life feels heavy or misaligned in this season?
● Where might God be calling me to release what is familiar?
● Have I been mistaking discomfort for confusion instead of growth?
● What would obedience look like for me right now?
Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me enough to grow me beyond where I’ve been. Give me the discernment to recognize what I’ve outgrown and the courage to release it. Help me not to cling to comfort when You are calling me higher. Strengthen my faith to trust Your leading, even when it feels unfamiliar. I choose obedience. I choose growth. I choose You! In Jesus’ name, amen.
