The Source of the Blessing

Summary

At times we can become distracted from God’s Word and begin to rely on other things as our source. However, we should understand that God has always been and always will be our one true source. He is the source of the blessing, which prospers every area of our lives. We activate the blessing by obeying Him.

  1. God promised Abraham that He would bless him. Through Abraham all families of the Earth are blessed (Genesis 12:1-3, The Message).
    1. To bless means to cause to prosper or succeed; to give something of value to another, or to add to that which is already good, making it better.
    2. The curse reigned on the Earth after the fall of man in the Garden of Eden.
      1. A curse is an empowerment to fail.
      2. Poverty and lack, in any area, are a part of the curse.
      3. Before Jesus Christ sacrificed His life, people were subject to the curse.
  1. Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law (Galatians 3:13, 14).
    1. Now the blessing of Abraham is available to all those who accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
      1. We are no longer cursed.
      2. We are blessed to be a blessing (Zechariah 8:13, The Message).
    2. God alone is the source of the blessing in our lives.
    3. All creation is dependent upon Him.
  1. When we obey God, He causes the blessing to come upon us (Deuteronomy 28:1-12).
    1. Acknowledge God as your only source; all other things are resources.
      1. It is easy to view jobs and education as our primary sources of sustenance; however, God is our one true source.
    2. When God blesses us, we can then be a blessing to others (Genesis 47:7-12, The Message).
      1. Many times, those with whom we associate cause us to be blessed.
      2. This is blessing by association.
    3. One word from God can cause you to increase (Luke 5:5-7).
      1. The blessing of the upright causes a city to be exalted (Proverbs 11:11).
      2. Honor God with your first-fruit offerings, and the blessing shall rest upon your house (Ezekiel 44:28-30).
      3. Speak the blessing over your life.
      4. Everything on Earth will increase because of the blessing (Ezekiel 34:25-30).
