Face that Fear!

I remember when our church began to grow considerably, and my husband, Creflo, began to really encourage me to preach. Those of you who know me know that even the thought of standing up and preaching in front of a crowd of people scared me nearly half to death! I’d struggled with fear for so many years, and here my husband was challenging me to face that fear! The nerve of him, I thought. I had never dreamed our church would grow so rapidly, and would continue to grow! How dare he ask me to stand before a large congregation! But, the truth is I couldn’t blame it all on Creflo! No, I could not be upset with him for pushing me out of my comfort zone. It was obvious that God was speaking through Him, urging me to face my giant, which was fear. I needed to step into certain leadership roles as our church grew. I had to simply hear what God was saying to me. My husband’s request reflected God’s heart and attitude about me—I could do more than I thought I could. I placed a limitation on myself, and I was keeping myself in a box. Here is a question that has been on my heart lately—why do we, as women, constantly limit ourselves? Why do we feel a need to downplay our God-given abilities? I believe part of it may be erroneous teachings we have received from the Church, the media, family, friends, etc. We, as women, have been bombarded with messages: you’re not powerful enough, or smart enough, or brave enough, or strong enough because you are a woman. That’s really sad! But, I believe that because of God’s grace, we can begin to embrace what He wants to restore in our lives! He wants to restore the empowerment He gave us from the beginning of time. He wants to show us that He made both men and women in His image. Think of that! He gave us both dominion! Let’s meditate on that today. We, as women, are made in the image of God! And He has given us the power to do whatever He has called us to do!

I want to hear from you—what do you think of that? How can you begin to embrace that truth in your life today?
