Seeing God’s Will

Do you know God’s will for your life and circumstances? I believe Christians are all in pursuit of God’s will for our lives. I don’t think it happens haphazardly. It’s not something that applies just to those in ministry; it’s for each of us to understand that God has a plan for our lives that He wants us to discover. Seeking God won’t happen by osmosis; we have to put forth the effort and intentionally seek His will for our lives. Patience is a necessary ingredient for finding God’s will since it’s typically not revealed all at once. We discover Him in progressive steps and stages by spending quality time in His presence and getting to understand Him through reading the Word.

People often determine their own path, expect God to intervene at different phases, then return to doing their own thing. However, though, every person has a will, ever person has an assignment and a plan from God for their lives. The sooner we discover it, the better off we’ll be. It took me eighteen years to understand that there even was a God and a will for my life, but I understood more about God and His plan as I read the Bible.

Imagine your life as a jigsaw puzzle with many pieces. When you begin to connect pieces together, you’ll start to see a glimpse of an image, a portion of what the puzzle of your life will look like. Just as one would spend time with a puzzle to put it together for a mature and complete picture, spending time in the Word of God gives us a mature and complete vision of His will for our lives.

Creflo and I were well into the ministry before the Lord compelled me in 2007 to begin to minister to women, especially those in prostitution and adult entertainment in Atlanta. I wrote it down and started breaking it down into pieces. What does it mean to minister in what way? I wasn’t sure, so I spent as much time in the Word as possible to understand. I compared women in prostitution in the Scriptures with present-day sex workers and started to understand God’s will for me to minister in this area. Things just grew from there.

God’s revelation comes in steps and stages to add to the foundation, line upon line and precept upon precept. Sometimes we want to get the whole ball of wax in one sitting. Once we start stepping out in little baby steps, though, He’ll begin to confirm the effort that we’ve already taken in pursuing Him, as well as confirm what we’ve done in obedience. Then He’ll reveal more and more. It takes determination, humility, and vulnerability to seek His presence, His plan, and what He’s called you to do. Are you up to the challenge? If so, He’ll direct you in the way that you should go, but it starts by reading and studying the Word of God. I spent a lot of time reading the Bible because I wasn’t raised in a Christian home, and we didn’t go to church—all this was very foreign to me. If I can do it, so can you. Still, it takes intentionality to invest your time in studying the Word in a translation that you can understand. Your future is counting on you to take these steps so that you find God’s will for your life. Somebody else’s breakthrough may be relying on you to seek God’s will and walk in it. Your purpose-filled destiny will thank you later, so seek Him today!
