Put your foot down

How often do we feel utterly overwhelmed at our situation? When last did you feel exhausted, depressed, or anxious? It feels as thought today’s world is all about feeding these emotions. We’re bombarded with information on things we should be doing, areas we should be investing our time, our money and our energy. Advertising and articles on social media easily lead us to feel that we are irresponsible if we’re not eating this, or parenting like that. I wonder what God thinks it though.

The thing is that as believers, we’re called to be Christ-like and while Jesus certainly did experience tiredness and even righteous anger, I can’t find anything in the scriptures to indicate that He ever once felt depressed or overwhelmed. Even in the Garden of Gethsemane, as He endured the greatest spiritual battle, He remained fixed upon His heavenly Father.

How different our lives could be if we, like Jesus, fixed our eyes upon our Father in Heaven. How different would it be if we sought out His perspective?

In John 16:33 (AMP) Jesus says, I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration;but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident; certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world.

Praise God! He has deprived Satan of his power to harm you. He’s already fought the battle and won. We can take courage in the fact that there is nothing in this world that can overpower us. Jesus has already overcome. In fact, 1 Corinthians 15:57 reads …thanks be to God, who gives us the victory [as conquerors] through our Lord Jesus Christ.

It’s so important to see everything in our lives from God’s perspective. Once we do that, we stop allowing circumstances to define what our lives are like and learn to look at the Word of God for His perspective.

The Word of God reminds us that He has a plan for us. He wants to do great in us and through us. We are redeemed and the enemy has lost all authority in our lives. God has given us all power and authority; it’s up to us to exercise it.
